What is a financial coach?
A financial coach guides and encourages their clients to reach their financial goals. The process is personalized and non-judgmental. Financial coaches provide support, encouragement, accountability, and tools to help people make informed decisions.
Is coaching for me?
Hiring a money coach is a great idea for anyone who feels like they don’t have control over their money. If money causes you stress, anxiety, confusion, frustration, etc. and your day-to-day habits are contributing, please schedule a call with me. Maybe it’s poor habits that have caused your financial situation. Or simply not knowing the next best step to take to improve our money. Maybe you had an unfortunate series of events that created debt you don’t know how to get rid of. Coaching can provide you the roadmap and accountability you need to turn your financial anxiety and stress into confidence and empowerment.
What is the difference between a financial coach and financial advisor?
Much like a sports coach, life coach, or health coach, financial coaches guide you on your financial situation today. We help with things like curbing spending, getting rid of debt, prioritizing savings, etc. Financial advisors can help you build wealth and long-term strategies such as retirement, estate planning, long term care planning, etc.
What experience do you have?
I’ve been a financial coach since college, I just didn’t know it! I’ve always had a personal passion for personal finance, and stated out by helping my friends and family create and stick to budgets. I didn’t realize I could make a living at it until a few years ago. Helping people get ahead with money and stick to a plan that gets them out of debt and ready for financial surprises is my what I was meant to do. I was let go from my job of 7 years a month after my husband and I purchased our first house and four months before our wedding. I know financial challenges and anxiety, and how lonely and embarrassing that can feel.
What is your coaching philosophy?
I believe that there is not one way to financial freedom. There are the numbers and what the brain can tell you is the best path forward based on crunching the numbers. But there’s also the heart. What matters most to you? What can change in your finances to give you the biggest sense of relief and control? We’ll review your finances, plan out different paths you can take to achieve it, and together we’ll choose the path and outline the next best steps.
Who do you coach most often?
This is a great question. Most often it is someone who is busy but wants to make a change. They aren’t sure of the first step. They want a resource to help them create a structured plan and stick to it. Not creating this is painful because it means they must live with a feeling of anxiety and being out of control. They have tried to create a budget before, but frustratingly, that didn’t work because they didn’t make it a priority and had no accountability. Because I can simplify finances and give you confidence, I can be a cheerleader and keep you accountable. So you can change your habits and be proud of yourself and your financial freedom.
I’ve tried budgeting before, how will this be different?
I don’t have a magic system. Booking a session with me will not solve all of your money problems. Only you can do that. If you are ready to get serious about your goals and get serious about achieving them, I can help you do it. I can guide you. Check-in on you. Set goals with you. Provide feedback on and recommendations on how to make your financial goals come true. But at the end of the day, you are the one who’s going to have to change your money habits. Are you committed to changing? Then set up a call and let’s chat!
Will you try to sell me something?
I’m a coach, not a financial advisor. I cannot manage your portfolio for you or sell you any other products. The only thing I sell is coaching. If you’re a fit, I will recommend my three-month coaching program which costs $797 and includes monthly deep-dive sessions, weekly phone call check-ins, and tools to help you reach your goals.
Will I need to buy tools or spend more money to make our plan work?
There are a lot of money management tools out there. I can recommend some that are popular. But I’m an excel person myself. That’s what I use to manage my own finances and if it works for you what I’ll recommend for you if it seems like a fit. That said if you hate excel, don’t have access to a computer that has excel, or would prefer to use a different method for keeping track of your money, we can work together to find the best system for you.
I don’t make a lot of money, will coaching help me?
Coaching is great for anyone who has a challenge with money and wants help solving it. It’s not about how much money you have. Because money is so personal and relative, someone making $50,000 per year may feel blessed and abundant with money and someone making $200,000 may feel broke. If you have a money problem, let’s talk and find a solution together.
I’m embrarrased about my finances and have a hard time talking about it. Can we not talk?
My preference is phone calls. We could also Zoom if you prefer video.
Would you prefer to do the entire coaching via without directly talking? I’d be happy to tackle your financial challenges via email. The same program can be done completely via email albeit would be someone modified.
Also, know that our sessions are completely confidential. None of your information will be shared outside of our conversations and emails.
What do you charge for coaching?
An initial consultation is free. We get on the phone for 15-20 minutes to get to know each other and review your financial goals. It’s a two-way street. Are you comfortable with me and talking about your finances and goals? Do I think I can help you and think we’d work well together? We determine if there is a good fit in moving forward with one-on-one coaching. The one-on-one 12-week coaching program is $649 total with a 10% discount if you pay in full in one installment.
Coaching program details:
- One-on-one coaching for 3 months. This ensures accountability and consistency in achieving your goals.
- One 60-minute discovery call each week to review high-level goals and align on the next steps to move your goal
- One 15-minute check-in call each week we have not had our discovery calls to evaluate progress and make shifts as needed.
- Access to templates and tools to keep you on track and accountable
The first 60-minute call we will review your current financials, top goal(s) you wish to tackle, identify habits holding you back from reaching those goals, and a specific set of steps you can start taking immediately to better your financial situation.
Prior to the call you will receive a worksheet from me to fill out 48 hours before your first session. The worksheet includes questions about your finances (specifics), top goals, what keeps you up at night, etc.
The 15-minute check in calls will provide you with the accountability you need to take the action you promised yourself to achieve your goals.
How can I justify the cost of a coaching program?
The price of my one-on-one coaching is in-line with the value I know you will receive from me. If you could solve your financial problems without help, I think you would have done so already. The fact that you’re considering a financial coach and have ready this far down the FAQs to me says you’re likely a good candidate for coaching. If you’re here, you likely have financial challenges, questions, and habits that, once addressed will provide you so much value it will be worth more in the long run (or even short run) than the investment you made in coaching. You’re solving an immediate problem and setting yourself up for positive financial habits for the rest of your life.
How much would you pay to:
- Lessen or remove the anxiety you have around money
- Feel more confident in what you can and can’t afford
- Know you’re working toward your financial goals and have a specific plan with dates to meet them.
- Be a role model for your kids about money
- Stop the bleed on the interest payments you’re making each month
- Not freak out when an unexpected expense comes up
- Stop the fighting and nagging with your spouse about money
Financial confidence and the freedom that having your finances in order brings truly doesn’t have a price tag. So, I encourage you to think about your why. Why you want to get your finances together. The relief that feeling good about your finances will bring you.
Can’t I learn what I need to do on my own? Why pay for coaching?
True. Everything I will teach you can be found in books, blog articles, podcasts, etc. What I provide is creating a roadmap specifically tailored to your situation. But the real value is the accountability and forming of new habits to break the financial habits that got you into your financial situation, to begin with. And begin crafting new habits to make your financial dreams come true.
What happens if I’m not happy with the coaching?
We will establish and level set expectations on the first call of the program. The coach (me) will help guide you and set up your next play. I’ll encourage you from the sidelines each week on our check-in calls. But ultimately, you’re the one on the field making the plays day in and day out. Your commitment for change and achieving your goals will be a big factor in your success. We determine the next steps together to ensure you are finding success and value. No refunds are offered on the coaching once we’ve begun together and there is a strict cancellation policy that protects us both.
